3 Congratulations to Boxing Pro Derrick James, who was named 2017 Trainer of the Year by The Ring magazine. He was recognized for training Errol Spence Jr. to IBF Welterweight World Champion and taking WBC Junior Middleweight titleholder Jermell Charlo to "new heights" with multiple remarkable knockout wins.

This basketball season, maximize your child’s training between games with the Elevate Your Game Basketball Academy on Sunday afternoons, Jan. 14-Feb. 25. Instructed by Basketball Pro Coleman Crawford, players ages 5-16 focus on improving their fundamentals through competition drills and scrimmage training. Register online.

Our adult and youth tennis programs swing back into action on Monday, Jan. 15. Beginner Clinics, Practice and Play sessions, Aerobic Tennis workouts and junior clinics for ages 5-16 are offered year-round. Previous work experience prior to coming to Cooper: My ultimate career experience has been raising my two sons! Once they were in high school, I started working outside of the home. I was a Medical Assistant to Samuel Lam, MD, and then became Spa Director when he opened The Spa at Willow Bend. Following that position, I worked at The Spa at II Creeks before coming to Cooper Spa as a Spa Coordinator, which led into my current role in the Membership Office.

What is your favorite form of physical activity? It’s a four-way tie between Cardio Dance, Pilates Reformer, Barre Method and SGT led by Aaron Feldman.

What is your favorite form of physical activity? Walking and tennis.

If you had an extra hour of free time each day, how would you spend it? Enjoying time with my friends.

What is your hidden talent? Cooking and sewing. My favorite meal to cook is Tibsi, an Eritrean meat dish. I also enjoy quilting and making kids’ clothes and my own clothes.
