Pressure cooker with vegetables

Colorful, shiny and packed with a promise to make cooking easier, small kitchen appliances can help steer you on a path to healthier eating. Cooper Clinic Nutrition Services recommends three appliances to help you make healthy eating a habit.

Instant Pot®

Late night at the office? You can still have dinner on the table in time when using the Instant Pot®. Using pressure, this product cooks food fast, which means you can prepare your favorite meals quickly and more frequently.

Just how fast does it work? Let’s compare the cooking times for lean beef stew using two pounds of meat and vegetables:

  • Instant Pot - 40 minutes
  • Stove top - 2 hours
  • Oven baked - 2.5 hours
  • Slow cooker on high heat - 2-4 hours
  • Slow cooker on low heat - 7-8 hours

A meal comprised of salmon and asparagus cooks in just 3-6 minutes. In addition to cooking with pressure, you can also bake, steam, slow cook, sterilize, sauté, sear and warm foods.

Air Fryer

Now you can enjoy your favorite fried foods with less fat and less guilt! Designed for multi-function tasks, the air fryer uses up to 80 percent less oil than traditional deep fryers.

The fryer works by circulating heated air around the food using just a small amount of oil, which reduces the fat content significantly. Many recipes include one tablespoon or less of oil or just a spritz of cooking spray.
Use an air fryer to whip up foods such as:

  • Fried chicken or wings
  • Roasted cauliflower
  • French fries
  • Taquitos
  • Corn on the cob
  • Jalapeno poppers
  • Hamburger
  • Popcorn
  • Brussels sprouts with garlic
  • Shrimp with dipping sauce

Uber Appliance®

If your goal is to increase your hydration, you’re in luck! Uber Appliance® is a mini chiller that comes with a wall plug and a cord that fits the power outlet in your car. These portable chillers can hold up to 12 cans of your choice of beverage.

Use the Uber chiller to store your favorite:

  • Smoothie
  • Protein shake
  • Sparkling water
  • Bottled water

A busy lifestyle doesn’t have to come at the expense of healthy nutrition. Utilize cooking technology to help you on your journey to good health.
