OUR COMMUNITY

Catch up with what your fellow Cooper members are doing.

In February we launched the new name of our wellness program, Cooper Quest (formerly Activ8). During Cooper Quest Week, Feb. 13-17, members participated in health assessments, a mobility fitness class, mini Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) sessions, lectures and more. See photos.

The Fitness Center is a buzz about our new heart rate tracking. In February we introduced it in our Indoor Cycling classes and it’s coming soon to classes in the Aerobics Studio. Also, on Feb. 28, The Coop hosted a Garmin Member Night for members to learn about the Garmin products from our Garmin rep.

To learn about the benefits of heart rate tracking, read a recent Health Tips article by Professional Fitness Trainer Ryan Sheppard, MSEd. Also, watch an Exercise Move video demonstrating a quick interval workout focused on raising your heart rate safely and effectively.

In November, Members Sam and Maria Beys completed the Athens Marathon in Greece. An inspiration to all members, Sam ran the marathon after overcoming major health issues. Maria’s passion for running began on Jan. 1, 2014 when she ran her first mile ever without stopping. In November 2014, she ran the Chicago Marathon as a tribute to her late father and ran it again in 2015. She is now an avid runner.

Members Houston and Vicki Nichols started their Valentine’s Day together with a heart-healthy breakfast from Cedars during Cooper Quest Week. Twenty-five years ago, one year after Houston and Vicki met, they won first place in the Sweetheart Rally (a former couples fitness competition at CFC).

Last year, member Bob Valentino suffered a massive heart attack. He recovered quickly by continuing his healthy habits including exercising. An active member for more than 20 years, Bob enjoys tennis, ballroom dancing and cardio on the outdoor track.

Newlyweds Scott and Carol Malcolm arrive early to exercise, making exercise a priority together. Scott says, "Cooper is down to earth, cutting edge, real information and real results."

Member Michelle Thomlinson is a regular in our yoga classes. She got a kick out of posing with The Coop mannequin modeling yoga wear available for purchase in-store.
