Cooper Complete Eye Health Formulation Follows the Science

Cooper Complete® is more than a name, it’s an accurate description. Based on scientific research, each formulation contains the precise amount of vitamins and minerals listed on the label.

As he did with exercise, Dr. Kenneth Cooper will continue to push for the study and documentation of the effects of vitamin supplementation and we will enhance the Cooper Complete vitamin line based on the best and latest research. Our Eye Health formulation was recently updated based upon new scientific findings.

For people with or at high risk for some eye conditions, such as age related macular degeneration (AMD), the right combination of supplements may help slow or prevent these conditions. For example, the National Eye Institute released findings from its follow-up to the Age Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS). The AREDS2 study followed 4000 participants for 5-6 years. The participants were 50-85 years old and had drusen (an early indicator of macular degeneration) in both eyes or a large drusen in one eye with advanced AMD in the other eye. The findings, from the AREDS2 study, show that high doses of antioxidants vitamin C (500mg), vitamin E (400IU), 25 mg of zinc, and ingredients lutein and zeaxanthin reduced the risk of vision loss from AMD in people with intermediate AMD or advanced AMD in just one eye.

Based upon these discoveries, we added 350mg vitamin C to the Eye Health formulation. When combined with the 150 mg in our Basic One multivitamin, the 500mg level from the AREDS study is achieved.
Vitamin E was also increased based upon the study results. Cooper Complete Eye Health contains 200IU of vitamin E. When taken in conjunction with either Cooper Complete Original or Cooper Complete Basic One multivitamins, the 400IU level from the AREDS2 study is achieved.

While zinc was a part of our original formulation, we had just 10mg and based upon the research, that amount has been increased to 25mg. The study also included 2mg copper to replace copper lost when you take zinc. Copper was added to Cooper Complete Eye Health based upon this recommendation.

We have always had lutein and zeaxanthin in our formulation and the AREDS2 study confirmed that people who took a formula with lutein and zeaxanthin showed further improvement. We use 10mg FloraGlo Luetin® and 2mg of ZeaONE™ zeaxanthin to assure optimum quality of these key ingredients.

Lastly, we also removed two ingredients from the previous formulation. Vitamin D was removed as the 200IU was too small an amount to make a difference and we have high levels in our multivitamins. L-Cysteine was removed due to some research showing it could raise homocysteine.
